MAIDEN NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH EXCELLENCE AWARD (NEHEA)
As a Regulatory Agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Environment, and by the powers vested in it by the Environmental Health Officers (Registration etc) Act No. 11 (As Amended), the Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON) is responsible for the regulation of Environmental Health in Nigeria in all ramifications. Accordingly, the Council has set out the following to be the Domains of Environmental Health: Environmental Sanitation; Sanitary Inspection and Audit; Food Hygiene and Safety; Public Health Pest and Vector Management; Housing Health and Sanitation; Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance; Air Quality Management; Occupational Health and Safety; Waste management; Water Sanitation and Hygiene; Recreational and Hospitality Health; Radiation Health and Safety; Control of International Frontiers Health; Pollution Control and Abatement; Hygiene and Sanitation/Promotion; Health, Safety and Environment (HSE); Health Impact Assessment (HIA); Climate Health; Environmental Health Laboratory Practice; Industrial Hygiene; Environmental Justice; Environmental Epidemiology and Toxicology; Children Environmental Health and; Cleaning, Decontamination and Sterilization.
In order to ensure ethical and professional delivery of the Domains, the Council is implementing the multi-layered Strategy Paper for the re-branding and re-positioning of Environmental Health in Nigeria. This is aiming to restore the lost glory of the erstwhile profession bequeathed to Nigeria at independence over Sixty Years ago, thus maximizing the impact for a healthier Nigerian People. One of the goals therefrom is recognition of Nigerians who have made appreciable contribution to the growth and development of Environmental Health in Nigeria.
The Council has resolved that the recognition tagged ‘National Environmental Health Excellence Award (NEHEA)’ be ushered in at the highest level for maximum impact – presided by His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Award is focused on both public and private sector of the Nigerian economy and for Individual and Corporate Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in the delivery and support of Environmental Health Services and

Furthermore, the event will feature the following:
(i) Unveiling of the National Environmental
Health Practice Regulations (NEHPR), 2025;
(ii) Launch of the Premises-based National
Green House Gases (GHGs) Emission Monitoring Programme (NGHGEMP); and
(iii) Investiture of the President,
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as:
· Grand Patron of the Society for Environmental Public Health of Nigeria (SEPHON)
· Fellow of the Chattered Institute of Leadership, London.
